Employment Discrimination

If you feel you have been the victim of illegal employment discrimination, file a complaint or report a bias incident by:

  • Visiting one of our three regional offices. (Offices are currently closed to the public due to COVID-19 precautions. Drop boxes for required forms are available in the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh offices.) 

You Have the Right to Employment Free from Illegal Discrimination

In employment, it is illegal to discriminate against someone based on:

  • Race
  • Color
  • Sex
  • Age (over 40)
  • Religious creed
  • National origin
  • Ancestry
  • Having a GED rather than a high school diploma
  • Handicap or disability
  • Relationship to a person with a disability
  • The use of a guide or service animal for a disability
In hospital and health care employment settings, it is illegal to discriminate against someone based on:
  • Participation in abortion or sterilization procedures, or
  • Refusal to participate in abortion or sterilization procedures.
It is also illegal to discriminate against someone because they:
  • Opposed illegal discrimination
  • Filed a complaint
  • Assisted in a complaint investigation
This is called retaliation, and the law protects those who oppose illegal behavior.

To file an employment discrimination complaint, you must be a victim or have the authority to act on behalf of a victim.
